Copie de Massive scale WW2 shooter Hell Let Loose takes to Kickstarter

Hell Let Loose is an ambitious WW2 shooter that promises 100-player battles and a strategic layer of resource management.

The game was revealed earlier this year, but not much was known about it at the time. Now, developer Black Matter has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter hoping to raise a modest AU$136,000 ($106,000).

Outside of being a WW2 shooter with vehicles that takes place on big maps, Hell Let Loose is promising a different approach of persistence – almost MMO-style – to its combat scenarios. The frontline is always changing, and Black Matter calls it “platoon-focused gameplay.”

A typical map in the game is about 4km². Two teams of 50 players go against each other in an effort to capture sectors, which in turn confer one of three resources to

the team that holds them. The strategic layer comes from the choices that present themselves in battle, such as which sectors to attack and which to defend.

“Do you push to capture the enemy fuel depot, depriving them of the ability to reinforce their vehicles faster? Or do you defend your munitions depot, allowing you to continue a brutal naval bombardment?” the game’s pitch reads.

There are 13 different combat roles you can choose from, split into Infantry, Recon, and Armour. To best demonstrate the game, Black Matter released a nine-minute gameplay video which you can watch below:

There’s a clear emphasis on communication and tactical movement, and the game does look great graphically. You can check out the Kickstarter campaign for yourself from here.

Hell Let Loose is being developed on Unreal Engine 4, and if the Kickstarter campaign is successful, you can expect a closed alpha in the first quarter of 2018, with an Early Access launch in Q2.
